Cooption into the Max Weber College Council (Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies)
Professor Dr Andrea Christine Schmid studied education, psychology and sociology at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. Following her 1st and 2nd state examinations, she worked as a special needs teacher and qualified teacher at various schools in Nuremberg, Neuburg/Danube and Munich. In 1999, she was seconded to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she completed her doctorate in 2002, specialising in emotional and social development. From 2005 to 2010, Andrea C. Schmid was Academic Counsellor, and from 2010 to 2014 Academic Senior Counsellor at the Chair of Learning Disability Education at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. After habilitating and receiving the Venia Legendi in 2014, she was a private lecturer at the same university until 2019. In 2015/16, Andrea C. Schmid held the professorship for Pedagogy and Didactics of Learning Impairments with Special Consideration of Inclusive Educational Processes at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.
Since 2019, Andrea C. Schmid has held the W3 professorship for Inclusive Education Research with a focus on learning at the University of Erfurt. Her research is internationally oriented and focuses on inclusive school and teaching development, reform and Fröbel pedagogy in inclusive settings, health research in curative and special education, individual learning support, professionalisation research and counselling as a core competence of curative and special education.
Professor Dr Andrea C. Schmid is a member of numerous educational associations. She is currently President of the International Froebel Society - Germany (IFS-D) and Vice President of the International Froebel Society (IFS). She is a Fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg for Cultural and Social Science Studies and is active in various committees of the academic self-administration of the University of Erfurt, including the University Senate from 10/2019 to 09/2023. Professor Dr Andrea C. Schmid has been a member of the University Council of the University of Erfurt since 10/2023.
