Prof. Dr. Bärbel Kopp

Professor Dr Bärbel Kopp is Professor of Primary School Education and Didactics with a focus on teaching and learning at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. After studying at the University of Augsburg, she worked as a teacher at Westendorf primary school. In the winter semester of 1998/99, she began a part-time doctoral programme in education at the University of Augsburg, which she successfully completed in 2001. She then turned her full attention to an academic career. Professor Kopp has held the Chair of Primary School Pedagogy and Didactics at FAU since September 2010, focusing on "Teaching and Learning".

Professor Kopp was a member of the cooperative doctoral programme "Education as Landscape", in which FAU is involved in collaboration with the University of Bamberg, Nuremberg Institute of Technology and the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Nuremberg. Her research foci are in the areas of dealing with heterogeneity and inclusion as well as teaching and learning in Social Studies and Science. She also conducts research into transitions in primary schools and the associated personal development as well as issues relating to the elimination of educational disadvantages and the quality of teaching in primary schools.

Professor Kopp is a member of the Commission for Primary School Research of the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE), where she is involved in the working group for graduate services; she is also a member of the Society for Didactics of Social Studies and Science (GDSU) and the Society for Empirical Educational Research (GEBF). She is also a member of the Inclusion Working Group of the Conference for Primary School Pedagogy and Didactics at Bavarian Universities, sometimes in the role of spokesperson.

Professor Kopp has been Vice President Education at FAU since 1 April 2018 (term of office until 31 March 2024). She was a member of the Erfurt School of Education (ESE) Advisory Board from October 2018 to September 2023. Professor Kopp has been a member of the University Council of the University of Erfurt since 1 October 2023.
