Course Details

On the basis of a corresponding Bachelor's degree, you will be prepared to teach two subjects (one primary school subject and one secondary school subject) and to support children and young people according to their individual circumstances and specific support needs. In addition, you will become familiar with the possibilities of inclusive school development and acquire skills in counselling and facilitating change processes.

The Master of Education in Special Education is divided into the following areas:

Special education area:

  • The students are trained in particular for teaching children with special educational needs.

Educational and training science:

  • You will acquire knowledge about the social prerequisites of school, teaching and professional teaching, about the design of teaching and learning processes as well as the development and promotion of individual educational processes.

Specialist didactic area:

  • Students will also acquire subject- and school-related knowledge and skills on processes of teaching and learning and on the theory-based planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching in the subjects resulting from their first degree. In their first general subject (basic subject), they gain access to the practical field of primary school, and in their second general subject (special subject), to the practical field of mainstream school and areas of extra-curricular educational practice.

Career Opportunities

Our graduates work in the following professional fields:

  • as professional support for people with disabilities and disadvantages in primary and regular schools as well as in special schools and support centres.

In addition, a first vocational qualification degree prepares them for the teaching qualification for two teaching subjects. The degree entitles the holder to access the preparatory service for special schools.
