Dr. Verena Laschinger

Dr Verena Laschinger studied American literary and cultural history and social psychology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. During her studies, she spent a semester abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris and was a scholarship holder at the School of Criticism and Theory, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA. In 1999, she completed her doctorate at LMU with a thesis on American literature, political practice and the neo-realist novel.

Following a TV traineeship, employment in the IMAX theatre management during her studies and as a PR editor at ProSieben Media AG, she worked from 2000 onwards, first at the HVB Group's corporate television in Munich, then as editor of the group magazine, where she was most recently responsible for a twelve-language publication for the branch locations in Central and Eastern Europe.

Dr Laschinger returned to academia in 2005 and five years later moved from Fatih University in Istanbul to the University of Erfurt, where she researches and teaches at the professorship for American Literary Studies. She specialises in photography/visual studies, urban literature/urban studies and Nineteenth Century American Women Writers. Dr Laschinger's habilitation project deals with forgotten texts by 19th century American women writers.

Dr Laschinger has been active in various functions and committees of academic self-administration in recent years. She has been a member of the University Council of the University of Erfurt since 1 October 2023.
