Course Details
The Master program combines the three disciplines:
- Law,
- Social sciences (political science, sociology) and
- Economics.
This course of study is designed to give graduates of relevant BA courses the opportunity to develop or deepen an interdisciplinary perspective on social problems. The course of study is characterised in particular by a high degree of flexibility: Students can choose from a broad range of courses in order to set their own priorities.
The aim of the program is to enable students to carry out an independent, interdisciplinary and reflective analysis of the political, social and market-economy order of the Federal Republic of Germany, including its European and international connections.
To this end, the program conveys the methodological and theoretical foundations and their application-oriented implementation as well as subject-specific and interdisciplinary knowledge.
Two variants can be studied:
1st variant: studies with the disciplinary focus
- Social Sciences (political science and sociology) or
- Economic Science (organisation and economic policy as well as theoretical and empirical foundations)
2nd variant: Study with two disciplinary focuses in
- Law and Social Sciences or
- Social Sciences and Economics or
- Economics and Law
Job & Career Perspectives
Due to the interdisciplinary orientation, as a graduate you will have a broad, theoretically and methodologically sound perspective in Economics, Law and Social Sciences. On the other hand, the individual choice of courses as well as the integration of self-study units give you the opportunity to specialize according to your interests. In particular, specialisations at the intersection of the three disciplines are particularly suitable.
Our graduates work at national and international level in the following professional fields:
- in science and research
- in companies
- in NGOs
- in bandages
- with unions
- in public administration
In order to facilitate a seamless transition into professional life, in addition to the crediting of internships, there is above all the possibility of already writing the Master's thesis in cooperation with a research institution, a company or an organisation.

Structure of the study programme
The four-semester standard period of study comprises a three-semester study phase (90 credit points) and one semester for writing the Master's thesis (30 LP).
1st variant: studies with the disciplinary focus
- 72 LP in disciplinary focus
- 12 LP in Elective section*
- 6 LP at least one supplementary module outside the area of focus and
- 30 LP Master thesis
2nd variant: Study with two disciplinary focuses in

of which 27 LP each in one of the respective fields of study of Law (R) and/or Social Sciences (S) as well as further 9 LP freely selectable from both of the respective fields of study or, for the major in Economics (W), 12 LP each from both fields of study as well as further freely selectable 12 LP from these,

*In the elective section, modules from all three fields of study can be completed that do not already count towards the main focus, as well as, if necessary, subject-related modules from a foreign university. The elective area thus enables a specialisation in one of the two fields of study or an interdisciplinary extension.

The teaching program of the disciplinary focuses is divided into two study areas each with a series of compulsory and optional modules:

Internship
You will be offered the opportunity to take part in internships as part of the course of study, which will be worth 6 credit points as examination work. However, a maximum of one module can be introduced as an internship in the scope of 6 LP.
Study abroad
A semester abroad in an English-speaking country is strongly recommended. The International Office will be happy to assist you in organizing your stay abroad.
Admissions qualification
1st variant
- above-average Bachelor's degree in social or economic sciences of at least 90 credit points, of which 30 credit points in Economics modules are required for admission to the Economics major
2nd variant
- above-average Bachelor's degree in a first field of study (law, social sciences, economics or comparable) totalling at least 60 credits and a second field of study (law, social sciences, economics or comparable) totalling at least 30 credits
Language requirements
- German: Upon application, international applicants must prove German language skills at level B1.
Language Center
The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers around 140 language courses per semester in 16 modern and ancient (foreign) languages. It supports you in acquiring and deepening your language skills.
