The project focuses on spatio-temporal practices regarding the production and representation of westernness. With the question of what is Western about the West, it takes up a highly political and socially relevant question. It is primarily aimed at three objectives: (1) Scientifically, the joint expertise of the project workers in the field of spatio-temporal practices of world order and appropriation allows new insights into the complex of westernness. The individual projects are chosen in such a way that they interlock in many ways and thus make innovative contributions to the public and scientific debate. (2) Building on this, the Erfurter Raum-Zeit-Forschung (ERZ - Research Group Spatio-Temporal Studies Erfurt) is to be enabled to achieve the primary strategic goal of attracting a DFG Research Group. (3) Finally, the expanding field of cultural studies space and time research is to be developed into an even more visible and profile-building research focus of the University of Erfurt.
