Frédéric Vandenberghe, sociologist and Distinguished Fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg of the University of Erfurt, was elected as the new president of the Research Committee 16: Sociological Theory (RC16) at the World Conference of the International Sociological Association in Melbourne in July.
The Research Committee aims to organize an open interaction between the different schools in order to solve recurrent crises and to define future perspectives. Furthermore, the creation of an international community of scholars in the field of sociological theory is the focus of RC16.
Vandenberghe accepted the chairmanship of RC16 with a mandate to put social theory back on the agenda.
"We congratulate our colleague Frédéric Vandenberghe very warmly on this important task, which lies in the core area of the tasks of the Max-Weber-Kolleg and promises exciting impulses also for the work in Erfurt," said Hartmut Rosa, director of the Max-Weber-Kolleg.
