Online event with Dr Hendrikje Carius (Gotha Research Library), Dr Martin Siefkes and Julia Pfeiffer (both Chemnitz University of Technology) as part of the event series "Gothaer Bibliotheksgespräche"

Digital exhibitions have long since established themselves as an independent format of cultural mediation. But how are they perceived by visitors? Which design elements promote information and interaction - and which are more of a hindrance? How can digital exhibition experiences be analysed in a differentiated way? The Gotha library discussion "Screen culture? New research approaches to the typology and reception of digital exhibition experiences" offers insights into an innovative research project at the Professorship of Linguistics at Chemnitz University of Technology, which is being realised in cooperation with the Gotha Research Library. Under the title "Digital Exhibitions – From Typology to Reception Perspectives", the project has been systematically investigating the diverse manifestations and user experiences of digital exhibitions since 2022. It is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism.

The current project phase centres on an eye-tracking study on the reception of a digital exhibition prototype at the Gotha Research Library. The findings will be incorporated into the digital exhibition "The Orient in Gotha", which is currently under construction and will be published on the library's exhibition platform on 25 June 2025.

The event with contributions from Dr habil. Martin Siefkes (TU Chemnitz), Julia Pfeiffer (TU Chemnitz) and Dr Hendrikje Carius (Gotha Research Library), will shed light on the central theoretical foundations and methodological approaches of the project, provide insights into initial results and invite discussion on the potential and challenges of digital exhibition formats.
