The promotion of skills in the mediatised, digitally influenced world has been a mandatory task of schools for several years now and the competent use of media is already being discussed in scientific and educational policy discourses as a further cultural technique. However, the implementation of media education and digital education in schools requires – in addition to appropriate equipment and framework conditions – above all competent (media education) teachers. Many educational institutions have therefore set up well-equipped media technology laboratories and workshops. In these, digital media technology can be acquired and its successful use in the classroom in terms of media didactics and media education can be tested, reflected upon and (further) developed.

Colleagues from universities and schools discussed their perspectives on laboratories and workshops for digital teaching and learning at a conference in November 2021 and shared their experiences of setting up and running them. This anthology is the result of this conference. In addition to contributions on theoretical and conceptual foundations, the volume presents various laboratories and workshops for digitally-supported and media-enriched teaching and learning. In the context of these contributions, the underlying concepts and significant framework conditions at the respective locations are presented, insights into practical experiences are provided and conclusions are drawn from the didactics of higher education.
