Studying and private life are not always easy. There are situations in which you need a sympathetic ear and simply want to get things off your chest. That's why there is a helpline at the University of Erfurt - by students for students!
It was launched at the start of lectures in the summer semester 2021. The helpline is made up of students from different fields of study and semesters: some have not been at the University of Erfurt for long, others are already doing their doctorates. What unites them? They want to support their fellow students with problems and psychological stress related to their studies, listen to them, advise them and provide further help.
How did the helpline come about?
The project is presented on the campus blog "I like my university..." in an interview with Hannah Schneider, who coordinated the project.
The helpline can be reached at +49 361 30252964 during staffed hours.
Please note: During the lecture-free period, the staffing of the helpline may differ from the specified times.
In the overview below you can see how the helpline is staffed.
The calls are of course anonymous. Before starting their work, the members of the helpline have completed an introductory training course by the psychosocial counseling center of the Studierendenwerk Thüringen. Among other things, this training covered legal aspects (confidentiality).
The helpline has two lines but no mailbox. If you call outside of office hours or if both lines are busy, please simply call again later. Thank you very much!
At this point, the occupation of the telephone is announced.
My name is Arne-Landolph, but you are welcome to call me Arne :) I'm 24 years old and I'm studying special needs and inclusion education at the University of Erfurt so that I can earn my living as a special needs teacher later on. When I'm under stress, sad, scared or have other problems, I always realize how important it is to be able to talk to someone about everything that's on my mind. That's why I work at the Worry Line, to be that "someone" in difficult times for those who are looking for both a sympathetic ear and an open heart and want to confide in me.
Hi, I'm Inya, I'm 24 years old and I'm studying literature. I'm involved in the helpline because I know what it feels like to need help. Now I want to give something back.
My name is Ana, I'm 23 years old and I'm studying for a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. It can be very stressful and sometimes overwhelming, especially when you feel like you're alone. And that's why I'm taking part in the Worry Phone: I know how much you sometimes wish you had someone who would just listen - without judging.
My name is Pia, I'm 22 years old and I study at the University of Erfurt. I know how much you sometimes need someone who just listens and takes your worries and fears seriously - especially when you feel like you're all alone with your problems. That's why I'm involved in the helpline, to be that "someone" for all those who need support in difficult situations and want to confide in me.
I'm Katrin, 30 years old and I'm currently finishing my Master's degree at the University of Erfurt. I've been on the helpline since the beginning and find the offer to listen useful and helpful. We all have moments when things get out of hand and we need someone we can tell our worries to without being judged - the helpline offers exactly this opportunity.
In the flyer you will find a wide range of consulting services in the field of health management at universities.
