Armed Self-Defense in Recent America: Intersectional Perspectives

The project attempts to understand historically the recent escalation of armed violence in everyday US-American life. It focuses primarily on analyzing the frequent justification of the use of firearms as self-defense. The project focuses on the extent to which the skin colour and gender of perpetrators and victims influence the use of firearms and their recognition as legitimate. A total of three sub-projects are devoted to the period from the 1970s to the 1990s in individual studies, focusing on different perpetrator and victim constellations.
