Beate Hampe has been Vice President for International Affairs at the University of Erfurt since May 2021, now in her second term of office. She substitutes the Vice President for Student Affairs. In principle, the Vice President for International Affairs is responsible for the internationalization of the University of Erfurt, including through measures such as the sustainable maintenance of a welcoming culture, the safeguarding and further development of internationally attractive Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and the best possible integration of international students. She chairs the Senate Committee for International Affairs.
Short vita
After several semesters abroad at Oxford Brooks University and Queen Mary and Westfield College, London University, Beate Hampe completed her studies in English and German (for secondary school teaching) with the first state examination at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) in 1994. There she received her doctorate in 1999 with a thesis on English Linguistics after a research stay at the University of California at Berkeley. After deputy of professorships, she took over the professorship for “Language and its Structure” (especially English Linguistics) at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Erfurt in 2009, where she was Vice Dean and Vice Dean for Student Affairs from 2011 to 2014.
