President

Professor Dr. Walter Bauer-Wabnegg

Walter Bauer-Wabnegg has been President of the University of Erfurt since October 2014 and is now in his second term of office. He represents the university externally. The President chairs the Presidium and ensures that the members of the Presidium conduct their business in a uniform manner. He is responsible for issuing directives.
His area of responsibility includes fundamental matters of university development, the conclusion of target agreements with the state and the faculties, appointments, fundamental matters in the area of academic teaching and research as well as university communication. As President, he is also responsible for chairing the Senate of the University of Erfurt. The Vice President for Research and Academic Careers represents the President if he is unable to do so.  

Short vita
Walter Bauer-Wabnegg, born in Straubing in 1954, studied linguistics, literature, theology and philosophy in Erlangen and Freiburg i. Br. and received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Freiburg i. Br. in 1985. After working as an lecturer at C. H. Beck in Munich and as a freelance media consultant and communication designer with a teaching assignment for new media at the University of Munich, he founded the media agency medien|design in Nuremberg in 1992. In 1993, he was appointed professor for media theory/media practice at the FH Aachen. After substituting the professorship since 1997, he was appointed full professor of multimedia storytelling at the Bauhaus University Weimar in 1999. He became its rector in 2001. From 2004 to 2009, he was State Secretary for Science and Art in the Ministry of Culture of the Free State of Thuringia.
