Prof. Dr. Kai Hafez appointed to the independent expert group on islamophobia

In order to research Muslim hostility in Germany on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and to develop proposals for prevention and combating, Horst Seehofer has now appointed twelve representatives from science and practice to the new "Independent Expert Group on Muslim Hostility" (Unabhängiger Expertenkreis Muslimfeindlichkeit UEM). Among the experts is Prof. Dr. Kai Hafez, Professor of Communication Science at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Erfurt.

Together with his fellow board members, Hafez will now analyze current and changing manifestations of Muslimophobia and examine them for intersections with anti-Semitic attitudes and other forms of group-based misanthropy.

Prof. Hafez's research focuses on Islamophobia and the relationship between the Islamic and Western worlds from a communication and political science perspective. In 2015, he was involved in the Bertelsmann Stiftung's "Religion Monitor: The Perception of Islam in Germany". Since 2016 he has been a member of the Council for Migration.
