New publication: "DDR im Plural. Ostdeutsche Vergangenheiten und ihre Gegenwart"

Under the title "DDR im Plural. Ostdeutsche Vergangenheiten und ihre Gegenwart" (East German pasts and their present), Sophie Lange (postdoctoral researcher at the History Department of the University of Erfurt), Christopher Banditt and Nadine Jenke have published a new book with the Berlin Metropol publishing house. It also includes a contribution by private lecturer Dr Kerstin Brückweh, Fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt.

In the book, which was commissioned by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Eastern Germany, 25 young academics show in vivid contributions how they approach the multi-layered nature of the GDR and its after-effects up to the present day in Germany as a whole with new research approaches. The texts deal with everyday life, cultural spaces, but also the political and security apparatus. The perspectives chosen range from the period of reconstruction to the years after the fall of the wall. The volume reflects the diversity of methods used in current research and invites further reflection on the GDR and East Germany.
