About the event
In 2009, Bron Taylor introduced the term Dark Green Religion into academic discourse. It refers to a specific form of globally widespread religiosity/ spirituality that centers on the sacralization of nature, animistic worldviews, or the personification of the Earth as a deity. The presentation uses this as a starting point to explore a particular medium for the dissemination of Dark Green Religion: therapy. Within the context of ecopsychology, various forms of ecotherapy offer a holistic approach to mental health treatment, based on the idea of nature’s inherent healing power. By incorporating experiences in natural settings into therapeutic practice, ecotherapy aims to enhance psychological wellbeing, resilience, and a deeper sense of connection with oneself, others, and the Earth. Focusing on the spiritual/religious aspects of some of these therapies, the presentation introduces examples of ecotherapy and analyzes them as a medium for Dark Green Religion.
