The bachelor's degree course at the University of Erfurt comprises a major and a minor subject (two-subject bachelor's degree) as well as the fundamental course of study. It aims to impart specialist content and occupational field orientation as well as interdisciplinary skills. The standard period of study is six semesters.

The bachelor thesis is written in the last year (5th/6th semester): In small groups of six to eight people, students apply the knowledge they have learned up to that point to the solution of real or near-realistic problems. Together with external project partners the topics and questions are developed. In the past, the ZDF, MTV, Premiere and the Pro-Sieben-SAT.1 group, T-Online, Deutsche Post or the Federal Press Office, among others, have been won as project partners.
The major and minor subjects differ in terms of the content and scope of the course. In the major subject a Bachelor thesis is written.
