The discovery days at the University of Erfurt mean experiencing "studying up close". Within a week (on as many days as you like) you can attend selected courses (lectures or seminars) and get a taste of campus life.
The primary aim is certainly not to understand the subject matter presented, but rather to gain an impression of what "studying" means.
Take advantage of the taster course and get to know the campus and the university's facilities, talk to lecturers and students and find out about our range of courses on site. In short: form your own impression!
We look forward to your visit!

FAQ: Questions & answers about the Discovery Days
Who are the Discovery Days for?
Attending the courses is primarily aimed at prospective students who have already shortlisted a few subjects.
For a rough orientation, we recommend visiting the university information day or taking advantage of the general offers such as the lecture on study orientation or the guided tours on the taster days.
To teachers: The University of Erfurt is happy to support you in your career and study choice teaching by taking part in the taster days. Our offers are suitable for grades 10 and up.
Do I have to register for the Discovery Days?
Do I have to attend the Discovery Days for the whole week?
Where can I find suitable courses?
When do the courses start and end?
Lectures begin 15 minutes after the stated time, colloquially known as "academic quarter", and end 15 minutes before the stated time. In exceptional cases you will find the indication "s.t." (sin tempore, translated: "without time"). These events take place punctually at the specified time.
The times are often indicated with the Latin additions "c.t." (cum tempore, translated: "with time"). For the sake of clarity, however, this information is not used in everyday university life.
If you would like to attend a course, please stay in the room until the end of the course.
What is actually a lecture and what is a seminar?
You will quickly realise in the course catalogue that there are different types of events at a university - lectures, seminars and exercises/tutorials. During the discovery days, you have the opportunity to attend mainly lectures and seminars. In a lecture, a lecturer gives a 90-minute talk while the students sit in the lecture hall and mainly listen and take notes.
Seminars are different. Here, a small group of students deals with the subject matter in discussions, presentations or working groups.
Exercises/tutorials accompany the other courses and are not suitable as a taster event.
With how many people can I attend a course?
You are welcome to attend our courses alone or with friends. Sometimes it is easier to explore new things together.
However, please refrain from attending in larger groups. We are happy to arrange an individual appointment for class-sized groups. Please contact: marketing@uni-erfurt.de or use our registration form for school classes.
How do I get to the university and how do I find my way around?
The University of Erfurt is a campus university, i.e. with a few exceptions (Department of Art, Music and Theology), all facilities, teaching buildings and staff offices are located on the campus at Nordhäuser Straße 63. The campus is easy to reach by public transport (tram line 3 or 6, "Universität" stop) or by car.
The digital campus maps and the on-site maps will help you find your way around. You can already get to know the campus in a virtual tour.

When you register at our Info Point, you will also receive a campus map, among other things.
More questions than answers after a course?
Do not put yourself under pressure. During the taster days, you will attend regular courses that students have already been taking for the whole semester. Therefore, your own requirement for attending the taster course should not be to be able to understand all the content covered in the course. Rather, it is about attending a real course and gaining a first impression of university life.
