"ChatGPT in everyday university life": Panel discussion at the end of the lecture series

A panel discussion entitled "ChatGPT & Co. in everyday university life" will conclude the first joint lecture series of the Erfurt universities this year on Tuesday, 12 November. In the summer semester, the lecture series explored the opportunities, challenges, risks and limitations of artificial intelligence from a wide range of academic perspectives. Representatives from the University of Erfurt and the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, the International University of Cooperative Education (iba), the International University (IU) and the Health and Medical University (HMU) will now come together once again to talk to guests about the role AI is already playing in research and teaching.

ChatGPT is an AI tool that has been publicly available since 2022 and is based on a large neural network. It was developed by the OpenAI organisation and trained with a large amount of text data from the internet and digital books. ChatGPT can perform a variety of tasks based on natural language input – also known as a "prompt" – e.g. generating, summarising and completing texts or answering questions. The digital tool also takes into account the course of the dialogue. How does artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT influence academic work and examinations at universities? What skills will students need in future to work with it in a meaningful way? And what experiences have universities had with ChatGPT & Co. so far?

Professor Uta Scheunert (IU), Professor Oksana Arnold (Erfurt University of Applied Sciences), Maren Würfel from the eTeach team at the University of Erfurt, Professor Kevin Hilbert (HMU) and Professor Dr Veikko Krypczyk (iba) will report on and discuss these issues on the podium in the ballroom of Erfurt Town Hall on Tuesday. The event will be moderated by journalist Blanka Weber.

All interested parties are cordially invited to attend. The event starts at 6.15 pm. Admission is free.
