Gotha Research Campus starts the winter semester with a new programme

The University of Erfurt's Gotha campus is also starting the 2024/25 winter semester with a new programme of events.

Various conferences are planned at the Gotha Research Centre in cooperation with the Gotha Research Library and the universities of Wuppertal and Hamburg. Exciting guests are also expected in Gotha once again: Dr Astrid Ackermann (Erfurt), for example, will reflect on infrastructures in the early modern period from a military history perspective in a lecture, Professor Anne-Charlott Trepp (Kassel) will talk about narratives of time and development of man and nature in the 18th century and Professor John Brewer (Boston) will address the so-called "travel writing" of the Romantic period in his lecture.

The Centre for Transcultural Studies / Gotha Perthes Collection will continue its programme in the winter semester with the Tuesday Talks and the Mappings research seminar. Both lectures by current scholarship holders and contributions from visiting scholars are planned. Among others, Lemuel Magaling will speak about the politics of the Pacific, Dr David Kuchenbuch will talk about global knowledge and counter-knowledge and Dr Daniel Hedinger about trans-imperial history. The events take place in cooperation with the Professorship for the History of Science at the University of Erfurt and the Göttingen Chair of Modern and Contemporary History, as well as the series in memory of the historian Professor Rebekka Habermas, who died in December 2023, which will continue in winter. Professor Isabel Richter, Professor Alexandra Przyrembel and Professor Rebekka von Mallinckrodt will be guests to pay tribute to Habermas' academic work.
