Franco-German workshop for doctoral students in urban history and the history of urban-rural relations in Weimar. The event is part of the "Weimarer Rendez-vous mit der Geschichte" programme.

Information from the organiser

The "Weimar Rendez-vous with History"(https://weimarer-rendezvous.de/), which has been dedicated to a historical topic for a weekend every autumn since 2009 and discusses this with experts and citizens in relation to the present, is focusing this year on the relationships between city and country, then and now.

In this context, the University Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 and the University of Erfurt are organising a workshop for young researchers, primarily aimed at (prospective) doctoral students who are working on urban history or the history of urban-rural relations between 1500 and the present and would like to present and discuss their projects. The workshop is also intended to promote German-French exchange in the field of urban history. Possible topics could include the development and transformation of urban spaces over time, the interactions between the city and its surroundings, the way in which cities were designed and built, the demographic and social development of urban societies, the role of cities as economic centres in the global economic network or the complex interactions between people and urban space.

The workshop begins on the evening of 31 October 2024 (Thursday) with a meal together and ends in the late afternoon of 1 November 2024 (Friday). Afterwards, a joint visit to the opening event of the Weimar Rendez-vous is planned. There will also be the opportunity to attend the panels, lectures and events on offer on Saturday and Sunday.
