"Something has to change...!"

359,338 people left the Church in 2021. This is according to the recently published church statistics. That this figure is emblematic of the deep crisis in which the church currently finds itself can hardly be disputed. How to deal with the fact that for many leaving seems to be the only option?

Julia Knop (Professor of Dogmatics), Benedikt Kranemann (Professor of Liturgical Studies) and Maria Widl (Professor of Pastoral Theology and Religious Education) from the University of Erfurt have tried to find answers and have taken a stand for "Theologie aktuell", the blog of the Faculty of Catholic Theology. For all three, one thing is certain: something must change now.
