Based on the results of a qualitative study, the lecture will discuss the career paths and experiences of former officers of the National People's Army of the GDR after unification. In doing so, both the central parameters of the Bundeswehr's "integration policy" and typical processing patterns on the part of the soldiers concerned will be highlighted. The aim is to shed light on the challenges of social integration of former GDR officers in the context of the system change of 1989/90.
