Evans is a political economist with strong passion, skills and experience in international development, teaching and consulting. His research interests include technological change, growth & socioeconomic development, social policy, poverty, sustainability, among others. His current research project at the Gerhard Haniel Chair of International Development and Public Policy focuses on Africa, examining the drivers of growth in contemporary Sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on digitalization, peace and poverty.
Prior to joining the Willy Brands School, Evans enjoyed research spells at both the German Development Institute (GDI) (now German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS)) and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA). At GIGA, he participated in field research projects with experimental components in Liberia and Ghana on Religion, Conflict and Sustainable Peace.
This summer semester, Evans will be teaching two courses at the Brandt School, “How to Make Aid Policies Smarter?” and “Policies for Fighting Poverty and Inequality.” In his previous role as visiting lecturer, Evans has taught the courses “Economic Analysis and Modeling” and “Political Economy of Development.” The Brandt School Team is excited to continue working with Evans in his new role!
