Urban history and urbanity can be reconstructed with the help of building archaeology. Sara Keller, postdoctoral fellow at the Humanities Centre for Advanced Studies "Religion and Urbanity" (DFG, FOR 2779) led by Susanne Rau and Jörg Rüpke at the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt, discusses the Indian city of Ahmedabad – a town with over 5 million inhabitants - founded in 1411, and its early monumental stone architecture – a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Architectural techniques and transfer of technologies, plural meanings of images and spaces, and urban development and urbanity are the main themes of this richly illustrated monograph.

The book is published by Navajivan, an Ahmedabad based publishing house founded by Gandhi in 1929. Sara Keller travelled to India for the book launch. She gave further talks at the Alliance Française in Ahmedabad, the School of Environmental Design and Architecture (Navrachna University, Baroda), the St Kabir School in Baroda, the School of Architecture Art and Design (Institute of Technology & Management, Baroda), The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda und the School of Architecture (P.P. Savani University, Surat), met with great resonance .
