Bruce Mutsvairo is a full Professor in the department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where he also doubles as the UNESCO Chair on Disinformation, Data and Democracy.

Prof. Mutsvairo's talk will focus on the recent developments associated with the digital divide, focusing principally on the socio-political implications. The discussion will draw upon various case studies to examine, theorize and show beyond the common paradigms of hopelessness and disengagement, that some societies in non-Western contexts, particularly those located in authoritarian environments, where non-digital settings remain powerful sources of knowledge and wellbeing, have found innovative ways to defeat the digital scourge.
