Roll-out of the new guidance and orientation system is progressing

With the opening of the "Weltbeziehungen" research building in 2023, we began to roll out our new guidance and orientation system – and with it the new linguistically neutral, systematic and barrier-free signage – on campus and thus also introduced the new coding of the buildings and the use or differentiation of postal and visitor addresses for our buildings. In the winter semester 2024/25, starting in November (week 48), more buildings will now receive the new signage.

In the coming weeks, steles with the new building designation (C-coding) and further information on the facilities located in the respective building will be erected in front of the buildings on campus. At the same time, the residential homes of the Thuringian Student Services Organisation (Studierendenwerk) will receive stickers with the new building codes on the existing building signs. Room signs with the new room coding as well as barrier-free tactile guidance elements will be successively installed in the buildings themselves.

The plans in detail:

C02 (administration building)
The building will be fitted with the new tactile door signs from 9 to 13 December. The new room designations will appear on the headers of the room signs in the format C02.[number].[number]. The future room numbers can be found in the building plans, which you can find in the drive U:\uni\D4-Info\GebäudeplänePDF of our campus network.

C03 (teaching building 1)
On 30 November, so-called flag signs will be installed in the corridors at the WC facilities to enable better orientation.

C18 (teaching building 4)
On 29 and 30 November, the following elements of the guidance and orientation system will be installed in building C18:

  • tactile desk in the entrance area of the building
  • elements of the wayfinding system
  • flag signs
  • staircase labelling
  • tactile door signs

The new room designations will appear on the headers of the room signs in the format C18.[number].[number]. The future room numbers can be found in the building plans, which you can find in the drive U:\uni\D4-Info\GebäudeplänePDF of our campus network.

C21 (KIZ)
On 29 and 30 November, floor indicators will be installed on the wooden stairs in the foyer.

H1a-c (Am Hügel 1)
On 29 and 30 November, the following elements of the guidance and orientation system will be installed in buildings H1a (teaching building 3), H1b (garden building) and H1c (kiln building):

  • flag signs in the area of the toilets
  • plastic labelling of the lecture hall (analogous to the labelling of lecture halls HS3 and HS4 on campus)

The tactile door signs will be installed in January 2025. The new room designations will appear on the headers in the format H1a.[number].[number]. The future room numbers can be found in the building plans, which you can find in the drive U:\uni\D4-Info\GebäudeplänePDF of our campus network.

C02, C18, C19 research building "Weltbeziehungen" and H1a-c (Am Hügel 1)
In the first quarter of 2025, the interior doors in these buildings will also be labelled with room numbers. This will enable the person in the room to clearly inform external rescue or assistance teams in which room help is needed in dangerous situations.
This will be implemented successively in all buildings once the new room numbers have been introduced.

P19 (teaching building 5)
The tactile door signs will be installed in 2025. Separate information will be provided for this. The new room designations will appear on the headers of the room signs in the format P19.[number].[number]. The future room numbers can be found in the building plans, which you can find in the drive U:\uni\D4-Info\GebäudeplänePDF of our campus network.

C13 (sports hall)
With the completion of the renovation work, the sports hall will also be fully equipped with the elements of the guidance and orientation system in 2025.

Due to the changes, we ask you once again to check your respective electronic business cards, your e-mail signatures and the addresses and contacts on your websites accordingly and adjust them if necessary.
