Against this background, the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of Erfurt, Professor Gerd Mannhaupt, after consultation in the Corona crisis team, today appealed to students in a circular email to protect themselves and others from Corona infection by wearing appropriate masks. The representatives of the Student Council involved also expressly support this appeal. It is true that the legal situation does not (yet) offer the possibility of obliging students to wear masks indoors. Nevertheless, the university management asks all university members to protect themselves and others by responsibly and independently wearing mouth-nose protection in situations where a minimum distance of 1.50 m between them and others cannot be maintained. Gerd Mannhaupt: "Particularly in seminar rooms and lecture halls, which I am pleased to say are well filled, I ask everyone except those speaking to wear a mask without being asked to do so. By doing so, you protect yourself and others from further infections."
Please note: With the QR codes still posted in the lecture halls, the University is not currently allowed to collect and store personal data to track infections for reporting to public health authorities. There is currently no legal basis for this. However, once this would be reinstated by the federal or state government, it may be released in the short term. With this in mind, the vice president makes another request to everyone: "In addition, please continue or resume using the Corona app, which allows you to notify others and others to notify you immediately of contact with a person who has tested positive."
