Professor Andrea Schmid elected as Vice President of the International Froebel Society

Andrea Schmid, Professor of Inclusive Education Research with a focus on learning at the Faculty of Education at the University of Erfurt, was elected Vice-President of the International Froebel Society (IFS) at its tenth International Biennial Conference in June.

The IFS brings together educators, university researchers and pre-school teachers. The Society provides an international forum for the development of educational theory and practice related to the child-centred Philosophy of Friedrich Froebel, the "inventor" of the kindergarten. In addition, the IFS creates opportunities for international research, discussion and debate on early childhood education. Its members research, promote and develop Froebelian theory and practice in early childhood education worldwide.

Hartmut Rosa, Director of the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt, praised the choice of Andrea Schmid, who is also an elected Fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg. He says she has made a particular contribution to linking Rosa's resonance theory with educational science and inclusion-related issues: "We warmly congratulate her on this exciting task, which will also make Friedrich Froebel, who was widely received in the international context with the concept of the 'kindergarten', and the related Froebel research better known in his home state of Thuringia."
