Amazon of Rights

Does the Amazon have its own rights?

Since September, Professor Michael Riegner has been dealing with this question in the new research project "Amazon of Rights: Understanding ecocentric normativity and its social reality through visual ethnography". The project is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and investigates nature's own rights in the Amazon using comparative law and ethnographic methods. It uses methods of visual ethnography and documentary film to make visible legal pluralistic norm constellations that elude traditional, text-based legal research. The project is carried out with cooperation partners in the Amazon region, at the Research Institute for Sustainability in Potsdam and at de La Trobe University in Australia. More information about the project can be found here.
