Can heavy metal be described sociologically? Hartmut Rosa, director of the Max-Weber-Kolleg, has now done just that. And in doing so, as he says, he has "to a certain extent taken a two-pronged approach" in order to look at both the external characteristics of the scene and the "inner experience".
