Petr Kubín presents the results of many years of research into the life and cult of St Gunther of Thuringia (+ 1045) in his original Thuringian homeland. Gunther was particularly revered in Bohemia, as his grave is located in Prague. But also in the Bohemian Forest, where he lived for many years. His life story and his cult are an important link not only for research into the shared past of the Central European region, but also for life in this vast region today.

Professor Petr Kubín studied history, Catholic theology (PhD), archival sciences and historical auxiliary sciences (PhD) in Prague, Eichstätt and Jena. He completed his habilitation in 2012 with a thesis on St Gunther. He was Professor of Ancillary Historical Sciences and holds the Chair of Church History and Literary History at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University, of which he is a member. He was also repeatedly vice dean for international relations and vice dean for science at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Prague. Petr Kubín is an internationally recognised researcher in the fields of medieval hagiography, the life and cult of saints and medieval liturgy.
