A great run!

Despite the upcoming European Football Championship preliminary round matches in the evening, numerous runners once again laced up their running shoes this year to take part in the 8th Erfurt Campus Run. More than 150 runners took on the ten-kilometre course at the University of Erfurt today in midsummer temperatures, which could be run as a relay or individually.

start of the 8th Erfurt Campus Run
In midsummer temperatures, numerous teams and individual runners took part in the 8th Erfurt Campus Run.

The Bambini started with a 400-metre lap before the team run began at 5 pm – as always with a witty commentary by Jens Panse, who was responsible for organising the event together with his team from the University Sports Club and the University Health Management. After 25 laps of 400 metres each, the University of Erfurt's "Fachschaft Sport" team was the first of 20 registered relay teams to cross the finish line with a time of 32 minutes and 58 seconds and was celebrated accordingly by the guests along the route. Second place went to the "Selbstläufer" team and third place to the "G.E.T. Fast" team.

The 10-kilometre individual race, which was also counted as the Thuringian University Championship, then started at 6 pm. Last year's winners Adrian Panse and Sina Müller also took part, competing against some strong competition and, from 6.10 pm onwards, they were also cooled down by the onset of rain. Panse, who started for the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena, finished third this year after 34:02 minutes. The winner and thus also the Thuringian University Champion was Anton Saar (Friedrich Schiller University Jena) with a time of 33:29 minutes, followed by Franz Böswetter (Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena) with 33:37 minutes. In the women's category, Sina Müller from Erfurt University of Applied Sciences defended her title with a time of 43:02 minutes. Second was Josephine Groneberg (Erfurt University of Applied Sciences // 45:17 minutes) and third was Jennifer Genge from the University of Erfurt after 46:44 minutes. You can find the results in detail on our website.

The 8th Erfurt Campus Run was once again supported by the Student Services Organisation and AOK PLUS as the University of Erfurt's health partner. "And health and the joy of running should, of course, be the most important thing in the fight for victory," says Jens Panse. He is delighted that interest has increased significantly again this year. "We had almost 50 per cent more registrations overall than in 2023, with 35 runners alone for the Thuringian University Championships. So the 'coronavirus dip' seems to have been overcome. And what I'm most pleased about is that, unlike the traditional runs, we have so many young, student participants – both among the runners and the spectators along the route. That and the really good atmosphere characterise our Erfurt campus run."

And if you would like to start training so that you can take part (again) next year, you can make a reservation for 25 June. That's when the Erfurt campus run will enter its 9th round.
