international conference on stained glass research and conservation

Stained glass is one of the most fascinating art genres of the Middle Ages, with its colourful glow defining our image of cathedrals and churches. In the face of massive environmental changes and currently again due to war, these fragile works of art are exposed to considerable dangers. From 15 to 19 July in Erfurt and Naumburg, over 180 experts from the fields of art history, monument conservation and restoration from all over the world will be discussing the research and preservation of this important cultural asset.

The international conference is being organised by the National Committee and working groups of the CVMA Germany at the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the High Cathedral Church of St. Mary in Erfurt, the University of Erfurt (Faculty of Catholic Theology and Professorship of Medieval History), the United Cathedral Foundations of Merseburg and Naumburg and the Collegiate Abbey of Zeitz, and in cooperation with the Thuringian State Office for Monument Preservation and Archaeology, the German National Committee for Monument Preservation and the City of Erfurt.
