English-language workshop as part of the workshop programme offered by Competence-oriented personnel development for academics

About

Translating research from the academic world to non-academic audiences or across different fields can be a challenge for highly specialized researchers. Luckily, social media platforms like LinkedIn, Mastodon and Bluesky provide a space where academics can reach broader audiences. These platforms can be powerful tools to engage the public, foster societal dialogue, and provide much-needed informal education.

This workshop is designed to help academics kickstart their journey into science communication by focusing on:

  • Understanding how to connect with non-academic or cross-disciplinary audiences
  • Getting familiar with the basics of LinkedIn, Mastodon and Bluesky
  • Exploring the tools available on these platforms to enhance communication
  • Networking with fellow academic communicators
  • Developing content strategies to keep your audience engaged

Dr Maia George is a workshop leader, coach and trainer in the academic field with many years of experience in adult education, including as a former employee of the Service Center LehreLernen in Jena.
