Information from the organiser

On 10 April 2024, the European Parliament voted in favour of the reform of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS).
A reform that was strongly criticised by over 50 human rights organisations. A reform about which over 700 lawyers and legal experts wrote to the German government: "We are currently facing the most massive tightening of refugee law in decades".

The student representatives of Economics Law, Law and Social Sciences and the university group International Security Policy want to talk about the human rights problems of this reform with the legal policy speaker of Pro Asyl, Wiebke Judith, on 5 June 2024 at 4 pm in AMG 012.
What are the effects of the reform on practices and refugee protection at the external borders? How will the new screening and border procedures change? What will change in the concept of safe third countries?

Laura Kaiser and Yosuf Bargut will report on their experiences and observations at Europe's external borders in order to provide empirical support for the legal-theoretical input. What human rights violations are already taking place? They will talk about dangers at the border and violence in the camps.

Afterwards there will be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in dialogue.
We look forward to seeing you there!
