Information from the organisers
Disputes over the debt brake, economic policy, social issues, foreign policy, energy and climate protection - these topics are dominating the election campaign for the early federal elections in 2025. Frustration, uncertainty, fear and anger are driving populism and polarisation. But how does this social and political change affect democratic cohesion in Germany? Shortly after the election, we would like to discuss the results, consequences and the intense election campaign together with experts and activists - with a special focus on Thuringia and the challenges for democracy.
The discussion will focus on the consequences of the election and the different perspectives from civil society, academia and politics. We will take a look at political and social developments and ask ourselves: How resilient is democratic cohesion? Is it under threat or is it finding new ways to strengthen itself?
Axel Salheiser, Institute for Democracy and Civil Society, will welcome us to the podium:
- Sabine Berninger, board member of the Refugee Council
- Thorsten Thiel democracy and digital expert, University of Erfurt
- a representative of the alliance Auf die Plätze Erfurt
