About

This workshop will prepare you to write strong applications for postdoctoral and professorial positions. You will deepen your understanding of how to present your research profile and academic goals, and of how to demonstrate that you are a good fit for the position. We will focus on jobs and applications in Germany, but will also draw some comparisons with applications in other countries.

Aspects covered include:

  • Differences and similarities between postdoc, professorial and other applications
  • How to read academic job advertisements, and what to do in addition
  • How to write a compelling cover letter, and how to tailor your CV to the position
  • How to think about language (English vs. German), register and style
  • The next step: some brief points about academic job interviews

There will also be room for any other questions or concerns you may have.

If possible, please bring along a suitable job advertisement, or information about a suitable academic position.

The event is offered as part of the Academic Skills Training programme. Registration is mandatory in order to take part in the event.

Further information on the workshop, the number of participants and registration can be found on the pages of Competence-oriented personnel development for academics.
