Educators, researchers at universities and preschool teachers are organised in the IFS. The society provides an international forum for the development of educational theory and practice linked to the child-centred Philosophy of Friedrich Fröbel, the "inventor" of the kindergarten. In addition, the IFS creates opportunities for international research, discussion and debate on early childhood education. Its members research, promote and develop Froebelian theory and practice in early childhood education worldwide.
Andrea Schmid, Professor of Inclusive Education Research with a focus on learning at the Faculty of Education at the University of Erfurt, has been Vice President of the International Froebel Society since 2023.
