Prof. Dr. Cornelia Betsch on the Thuringia's Corona Advisory Board

The state government of Thuringia has announced that it will set up a scientific advisory board this week to advise it on the Corona crisis. The board brings together twelve experts from a wide range of disciplines, including psychologist Prof. Dr. Cornelia Betsch from the University of Erfurt.

Under her leadership, the Robert Koch Institute, together with other cooperation partners, is currently operating a "COVID-19 Snapshot Monitoring" (COSMO). Once a week, the consortium conducts a live online survey to determine how people subjectively perceive the risks of the COVID-19 virus, which countermeasures are known, and which of these are already being used or rejected. The aim of this project is to gain a repeated insight into the "psychological situation" of the population. This should make it easier to orient communication measures and reporting in such a way as to offer the population correct, helpful knowledge and to prevent misinformation and actionism. New findings from the monitoring were published today.

The Corona Advisory Board will not only be responsible for managing the disease, but also for monitoring the relaxation of restrictions and the associated impact management. It will formulate recommendations to the state government on the basis of cabinet decisions. Individual ministries can also approach the committee with their questions.
