As a teenager, Andreas Fincke came to the attention of the GDR secret service (Stasi). This was triggered by an offence he had not even committed. What followed was his almost complete surveillance and discrimination. How do you read the files of the GDR secret service today? How do we deal with friends who weren't friends at all? How do we deal with things that (possibly) cannot be dealt with? Following the report on Andreas Fincke's personal experiences, in this event we also want to discuss Stasi files as historical sources and the proximity and distance of research.
