Hintergrund

Der ehemalige wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter Philipp Schmid ist jetzt Juniorprofessor für Gesundheitskommunikation an der Radboud Universität in Nijmegen, NL. Sein Ziel ist es, die Auswirkungen von wissenschaftsleugnenden Botschaften auf die gesundheitlichen Entscheidungen des Einzelnen zu analysieren und Maßnahmen zu entwickeln, um ihren persuasiven Einfluss zu verringern.

Wissenschaftsleugnung ist ein Ansatz, der letztlich darauf abzielt, eine These abzulehnen, über die ein wissenschaftlicher Konsens besteht. Im Zeitalter der Massenmedien hat die Wissenschaftsleugnung ihre Reichweite und Verfügbarkeit vervielfacht und bedroht die Akzeptanz und den lebensrettenden Einsatz von Gesundheitstherapien und Präventionsmaßnahmen - z. B. HIV-Behandlungen oder Impfstoffe. Leugner verwenden verschiedene Techniken, wie Verschwörungstheorien oder falsche Logik, um ihre Botschaften der Wissenschaftsleugnung zu verbreiten.

Um die Auswirkungen von Botschaften der Wissenschaftsleugnung auf die Gesundheitsentscheidungen von Individuen zu verstehen, wendet Philipp Schmid eine empirische Beurteilungs- und Entscheidungsperspektive an. Darüber hinaus nutzt er Literatur aus den Bereichen Entlarvung, Impfung und Widerlegung, um vielversprechende Interventionen zu entwickeln und zu testen. Sein Ziel ist es, grundlegende Forschungsergebnisse zu generieren, die in Empfehlungen und Richtlinien für Gesundheitsbehörden einfliessen.
