In 2023, an e-tandem project was launched by the universities of Murcia and Erfurt. The project aimed to promote intercultural communicative competence (ICC) through a phraseodidactic approach. In the e-tandem teams, participants discussed idiomatic expressions, comparing them, and examining their cultural significance and specific usage contexts. This served as an example of how cultural specificities are manifested linguistically. The foreign language learn-ers worked together to identify differences and similarities between their languages, which helped them increase their cultural knowledge. They also questioned cultural habits and stere-otypes and explored language- and culture-specific communication acts. The project demon-strated that e-tandems offer the opportunity to experience culture and that, in this context, com-parative phraseology provides stimulating conversation topics that enhance ICC. It also allows for shared reflection on the perception of the source and target cultures.
