Wi-Fi at the University of Erfurt

There are two Wi-Fi networks (SSIDs) available at the University of Erfurt, eduroam and gast-ue. The Wi-Fi eduroam is for employees, students and members of the University of Erfurt and other university members whose home institution participates in the eduroam network. The Wi-Fi gast-ue is for guests. Further information can be found in the corresponding accordion.

eduroam

The University of Erfurt is a member of the Education Roaming Initiative (eduroam) and thus offers its staff, students and members free internet access. External users whose home institution is also a member of the eduroam network can use eduroam with the configuration and access data of their home institution.

If your university uses easyroam for authentication, this can also be used. You can find instructions on how to set up your operating system on the website of your home institution or here. DFN Wiki

Here you will find step-by-step instructions for setting up the relevant operating system/type:

gast-ue (guest access)

You can connect devices to the Wi-Fi gast-ue without any special setup. If you do not have guest access, you can only access websites of the uni-erfurt.de domain!

Guest access is only intended for users who are not in the eduroam network and who have a legitimate interest in using it (e.g. external lecturers, conference participants without eduroam access).

The access data must be requested by e-mailURMZ

However, the Wi-Fi gast-ue is not a free Wi-Fi access for external library visitors and cannot be approved despite an application!

When accessing any website, the user is redirected to the guest access login page. Internet use is only enabled after entering the access data.

Please note: The Wi-Fi gast-ue is not encrypted for technical reasons! Please therefore take particular care to only enter sensitive data (e.g. passwords) via an encrypted connection to the application (e.g. https in the browser)!
