Closed stacks (Magazin):

• ready for collection after 3.5 hours maximum or on the following working day

Closed stacks (Special collections):

• order on the online catalogue or Discovery (Login)
• ready for collection after 5 hours maximum or on the following working day

Research Library Gotha:

• ready for collection after 4 working days maximum

Lending media
The loan period for books and other media from the reading room, textbook collection and closed stacks is 28 days.
Books from the textbook collection can only be borrowed by members of the University of Erfurt.

Media not for loan

• reference works
• journals and newspapers
• course readers and reference collections

These items are for use only in the library.

Self-service check-out is available for borrowing books from the reading room and the textbook collection during all opening hours of the library (ground floor and 2nd floor). A valid user card or thoska is necessary. Follow the instructions on screen.

Self-service check-in is possible at the right-hand device on the ground floor.

Some media must be ordered from the closed stacks. Please use the request button on the online catalogue/in Discovery.
You also need your library number and your password for ordering.
Issues of daily newspapers of the last months can be ordered by loan slip.

Media from the closed stacks in Erfurt are available on the next working day at the latest, media from the Gotha Research Library after 4 working days.

Media that can be borrowed are made available at the information desk, media for use in the library only are made available in the reading room on the 2nd floor or in the special reading room. Please always bring your user card or the thoska. Media are available for collection for 7 days.

As soon as the ordered medium is ready for collection, it appears in your user account with the status "abholbereit".

Books/media on loan to another user can be reserved on the online catalogue or Discovery by entering your user number and password. As soon as the reserved medium is ready for collection, you will find a notification in your user account.
Students and staff of Erfurt University are notified in addition by e-mail. All other users leaving an e-mail address are also notified free of charge. For notifications by post reservation fees are charged (postage).
It is possible to cancel your reservation yourself in your user account.

Renewals
The loan period can be renewed twice if the item

• has not been reserved by another reader
• your user account has not been blocked

If you need items for a longer time, please return them to the issue desk for further borrowing. You can also check back these books at the right-hand self-checkout desk on the ground floor, where they can be checked out again immediately.

E-mail reminder
Students of Erfurt University and all readers who have registered their e-mail addresses will receive a notification two days before borrowed items are due to be returned. Please note that you are responsible for returning items on time even if e-mails do not arrive.

The return of the media is possible

• at the service desk on the ground floor
• at the self-service check out, right-hand on the ground floor (exception: media from interlibrary loan, the Gotha Research Library and reserved media
• by mail (address: Universitätsbibliothek Erfurt - Ausleihe -, Nordhäuser Str. 63, 99089 Erfurt); the date of receipt is considered date of return.

Please check your loan periods regularly and renew the borrowed media in time.

Overdue fees are charged if items are not returned in time:

• 1st overdue notice: € 1,50 per item
• 2nd overdue notice: € 2,50 per item in addition
• 3rd overdue notice: € 4,00 per item in addition

Before the second or third overdue notice is sent, there is a period of ten days within which items can be returned or renewed at the issue desk. Overdue notices to students and staff are sent by e-mail only.
Please pay fees at the self-service payment machines in the foyer of the library or in cash at the issue desk.

Loss and damage of media
Please contact the issue desk if you have lost or damaged borrowed media.

Loss of the user card or the thoska
Please contact the information desk immediately if you miss your user card or thoska.

Before cancelling your library membership all borrowed items and the library card must be returned and all outstanding debts must be settled.
