Short Biography
Before Joining the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy, Aline Mugisho worked as part of Migration for Work Research Consortium (MiWORC) at the African Centre for Migration and Society (ACMS); Work Package 3, with a particular focus on Highly Skilled workers in two sectors namely: Health as well as Mining and Engineering. She previously worked on various research projects at ACMS/Wits University including: Exploring the Continuum of Coexistence and Conflicts: Modalities of Engaging with Difference in Poor Informal Areas in Urban South Africa, the Regional Perspectives on the Local Governance of Migration, Migrant Needs and Vulnerability Survey and Critical Psychology in Africa.
Aline Mugisho has a Master’s Degree in Migration and Displacement from the African Centre for Migration and Society, Wits University and a Bachelor in Journalism and Communication. She is currently pursuing her Doctoral Studies at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy; University of Erfurt Germany with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Her current doctoral research focuses on Gender, Resilience and Politics of Protection in Conflict societies with a particular focus on Great Lakes Region. Her research interest include: Public Policy; Politics of Reconstruction in Post-Conflicts; Research Methods in Conflict; Transitional Justice; Gender, Migration and Integration; Social Cohesion and Diaspora Dynamics.
Ms. Mugisho is also the Public Relations Officer (Volunteer) at African Diaspora Forum and has seasoned experience in project management, education and empowerment, prison monitoring, humanitarian relief, conflict mediation and reconciliation, psychological care for victims of war and poverty, lobbying and advocacy for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers as well as Monitoring and Evaluation. She also works as a Freelance Journalist in South Africa for the Migrant Voice co-published by Telestream. She has substantive work experience in Southern Africa and Great-Lakes Region of Africa especially in war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo, Post-genocide Rwanda, and Post-Conflict Burundi where she worked for several years as a journalist, Activist, Conflict Mediator and election Observer. Aline Mugisho is also part of the Coordinating team organising the World Social Forum on Migration to be held in South Africa on 5-8 of December 2014.
