In comparison to universities in bigger cities, Erfurt’s walkable city center and connectivity makes it feel homey. It ensures that every time you go out, there are friends around. The Global Communication Master’s program is also tightknit group that fostered friendship among the students. This program gave me the opportunity to specialize in media, politics, or culture, so that I could take more classes in an area that interests me. What I love is that the mandatory internship can be done anywhere, and study abroad is encouraged. The possibilities for new experiences are endless.

Living in these troubling times of violent global conflicts and rising anti-democratic movements around the globe, it becomes apparent that our generation must equip itself with new knowledge for old problems. Understanding the intricate systems of international communication flows and how a diverse range of political and societal power structures influence our everyday life, are the first steps we take toward an equal and more just future ... Being a part of this program has taught me how to flourish in a multicultural environment and how to reevaluate and restructure my own particular prejudices and privileges. Studying global communication doesn‘t just help you change society, you become the change you seek.

While media has become the fourth estate in the information age, in this program, we look closely at recent political and societal developments in the world. From our daily interpersonal contacts to media and political systems on a global level, we can investigate the role of communication in a comparative perspective. The flexibility in choosing our research fields has made it easy for me to explore my interests and makes a great contribution to my academical knowledge.

The program has convinced me by its international orientation, its exciting seminars and a personal work atmosphere. It offers the possibility to discuss global communication from different perspectives and to broaden the students' horizons at many levels. I am proud that our class is contributing to the internationalization of my hometown. Also, my initial concerns that English as the main language of the program might cause difficulties, have settled after a few weeks – it is a great way to improve one’s language skills at an academic level.

Global Communication has so many different levels and yet there are very few study programs out there that provide insights as this one, which focuses both on politics and society. In addition, the program’s
multicultural student body brings new insights and perspectives which helps us experience first hand the chances and challenges people in multicultural settings see every day. I believe all this is something
that you can experience only through this program at the University of Erfurt!

I chose the program because I am interested in the role of intercultural communication, especially in the context of globalization and social change. How could one better learn about these issues than in direct dialogue with fellow students from all over the world? The master program at the University of Erfurt offers me just that: Here I can not only learn about global communication, but experience it.
