That is only partly true. In the course of the BA programme Anglistik/Amerikanistik, students do take advanced language classes, in order to obtain a fluent and stylistically appropriate use of English. However, a very good command of English (at least B2 level) is expected from any prospective student.
No. In the week before the start of term, all students must take a placement test (Oxford Placement test). Depending on their result, students take language courses according to their proficiency level. If the result is below 75 points, the regular courses of the Bachelor cannot be attended, but students have the opportunity to improve their language skills within 1-2 semesters.
The Anglistik/Amerikanistik programme at the University of Erfurt finishes with a Bachelor of Arts. This is an internationally recognised degree that allows to persue further studies at any university. Also the University of Erfurt offers several suitable master programmes.
Insofar your acquired credits correspond in content and extent to the part of a module, the credits may be recognised. The current Subject Commissioner should be consulted for the recognition of credits.
The Subject Coordinator (Studienrichtungsbeauftragte) is responsible for the recognition of national and international academic achievements.
In order to have their classes validated, students need to download and fill out the form provided by Studium und Lehre. This needs to be presented together with the respective records of achievement (certificate with title of class, name of teacher, credits and grade as well as module allocation).
For a BA in Anglistik/Amerikanistik from the University of Erfurt, a minimum of 60 credits needs to be obtained at the University of Erfurt, including a minimum of 30 credits in the major subject.
For admission to English and American Studies, do not send your application to the faculty, but use the central application of the university. Admission opens 1 June each year and is online.
Begin of study is always in the autumn/fall term. You can study English and American Studies as a major or minor subject and combine it with any other BA programme except Literary Studies.
