Summer School : Traditional Media vs New Media

In the post-Arab Spring scenario, the new media outlets such as Youtube, Facebook and Twitter are posing a direct threat to the traditional media although it is more prevalent in technologically less aware societies. With an increased proliferation of private content producers, empowered by online social networks, digitisation and the internet are reversing the general content distribution mechanism. This calls for a comparative approach in the changing role of media- from its traditional architecture to its current new form.

This summer school thus seeks to understand these differences in a cohesive study comparing media ethics, practices and trends not only within a country but with a global outlook comparing Pakistan and Germany.  Included are field trips to German media houses, interactive sessions with field practitioners and video blogging modules to encourage students to bring their academic learning to practice.
