Dr. Sabine Best holds a doctorate in communication science, studied media management, and is a trained media designer. She worked at the Bauhaus University Weimar, where she collaborated with founders and co-developed innovative marketing and communication concepts with students. As project coordinator of the 'Lichtwerkstatt Jena' makerspace at the Abbe Center of Photonics in Jena, she created formats that enabled citizens, students, researchers, and start-ups to access modern technologies and the necessary know-how to turn innovative ideas into reality. In her research at the Chair of Health Communication, she uses participatory approaches to develop ideas for more comprehensible and needs-oriented health communication together with different target groups. She combines qualitative empirical methods with creative approaches – such as design thinking and co-creation – to explore the potential and limitations of participatory research. This approach also informs her teaching: together with Bachelor's and Master's students, she develops and tests interventions and teaches creative and empirical methods in a practical way.Main research areas: Participation, design-based and user-centered methods, innovation, creation
